Before Anime Expo 2015 my friends Sparkle Pipsi and Maryssa organized a group called the PreCure Army. Pretty Cure (or PreCure for short) is a long running magical girl franchise and I remembered watching the first season when I was a teen. The latest season at the time was princess themed and featured a cute girl in a super fluffy pink outfit – it fit my bill perfectly and I hopped on the chance to join their group!
This entire costume was made of casa collection satin. The trims were all attached with satin stitching and the scallops were created with a lining. The large over skirt is attached to the bodice and has horse hair along the hem. The bodice was heavily interfaced, lined and had tons of plastic boning sewn to the lining. In the show the girls have very smooth silhouettes with tiny waists and I wanted to recreate that – I always enjoyed the shape this bodice gave me! All the accessories were made of craft foam covered with Worbla. To make the wrist and ankle cuffs stand up I inserted craft foam between the fashion and lining layers – this made the part soft and easy to pack but still sturdy enough to stand on their own.
My favorite part of this costume was the wig! I created this wig from two eBay wigs spliced together, then dyed the fibers and styled them to fit Flora. This was my first time dying a wig and I think it turned out perfectly! The perfume is the official toy. The crown attached to a headband worn under the wig for seamless attachment.
