Kamikaze Kaito Jeanne holds a special place in my heart. It was the first series I ever read by my favorite magaka Arina Tanemura and was one of my favorites while I was young. The story follows the reincarnation of Jeanne D’arc and while she is a magical girl she struggles with everything from depression to romantic relations. I was so happy to create this costume in 2015 with my friend Princess of Tea Cosplay as another Arina Tanemura protagonist, Full Moon!
This was my first time creating a kimono style top and I took extra care to ensure that I followed historical construction of kimono tops. This costume is made entirely of cotton and is very breathable. The skirt is a basic pleated skirt that was lined in white cotton as per the references, I love this extra detail! You never really see it but it makes me happy! The obi is made of gold satin with heavy interfacing and duck canvas inside it, it closes with hook and bars. The purple sashes are also bridal satin. In order to thread the red rope through the sashes I created dozens of button holes – this was tedious but has a nice look. The red rope was purchased from amazon. To make it stiff and create the butt bow I threaded thick wire through the rope.
My favorite part of this costume was the long flowy sleeves, while these may be a bit longer than the references I love how they look and move as I wear the costume! The wig is an Arda Jeannie in Light Blonde. The accessories were all made of thermo plastic beads and painted with acrylic paints. The boots were purchased from Amazon and I attached the red ribbon. I would love to remake the cross for this costume and create a Fin Fish doll!
For Sakuracon I was joined by Princess of Tea Cosplay as Full Moon. For Anime Expo I was joined by Angelic Threads as Kaito Sinbad
