Sakizou is a Japanese artist who creates beautiful detailed illustrations inspired by various every day items such as sewing machines, tea, cookies and gem stones. My friend Princess of Tea and I had been planning on creating Sakizou costumes for quite some time and finally settled on Pearl and Opal from her set entitled “Romantic Jewels”.
This was the most complicated costume I had ever made there are just so many parts and tons that simply don’t make much since. I started by constructing the petticoat which was made of organza, tulle and cotton, following a tutorial by Rufflebutt. Once I had the petti constructed I was able to start on the actual costume. Most of this outfit is made of faux dupioni. The skirt is a pleated circle with pleated ruffles around the hem. The bodice has two layers of duck canvas and boning in it to give it some structure. The front panel was custom quilted. This costume had tons of pearls and gems attached to it for extra sparkle and elegance. The sleeves were made from pink chiffon. The shoes were modified from a pair of character shoes – they were painted then had embellishments sewn on by hand.
My favorite part of this costume is the adorable hat! When I made just costume I had just finished a class on millinery so this hat was constructed using methods I had learned in class! It was a great way to see that what I learned not only stuck with me but was actually helpful! The hat rests on a headband to keep it sturdily on my head. The wig is an Arda Victoria in Ash Blonde.
At Sakuracon 2015 we had Booomshells join us as Peridot.
