Tokyo Mew Mew was my gateway anime. It was the first show that I watched over and over and read a million times. In middle school I carried the entire manga series with me to school everyday – that’s how much I loved Tokyo Mew Mew. Ichigo was my first cosplay back in 2008 and I am so happy to have remade her.
I started by constructing the skirt – it’s a large circle skirt with a gathered hem and waist. In between the fashion and lining layers are two full petticoats for maximum floof! The bodice is a princess seam bodice with some steal boning, the fur was then attached and trimmed the length. All the fur on this costume started as long pile and was trimmed by hand to get the right length. The accessories were all squares of my material gathered and edged in fur. I also created the tail and ears for this costume. The tail is a tube of fur stuffed with poly fill that has a large metal wire through it. The ears are the same fur sewn around craft foam that can clip into my wig.
My favorite part of this costume is the gloves. These were made of a beautiful stretch glitter velvet and look so very cute! The scallops on the edge were stretched as they were sewn to create the warp in the hem line. The Strawberry Bell is the official toy from the 2000’s. The wig is a Viven from Arda Wigs in Peony Pink.
