This time last year my BFF, Nicole Bee and I were prepping for Crunchyroll Hime’s Cosplay Cup; an online, international, video based cosplay contest! Crunchyroll Hime’s Cosplay Cup (or CHCC for short) is one of the best contest I’ve ever been a part of. The comradery and creativity that the participants bring is always next level which is why I knew it would be the perfect first show for Nicole to compete in!
Now one thing to know about us is that we dream big and we get shit done. There is no limit to the crazy ideas Nicole and I will cook up when we’re put in a room together. So the moment I mentioned competing with Howl and Sophie to Nicole she was 1000% game. The next few months were a whirlwind of storyboarding, sewing, crying over acceptance emails, commissioning custom music, and a wild 24 hours filming our video in the mountains of Washington.
I’m proud to say that our hard work and larger than life ideas paid off as we were awarded “Best Advanced Innovation” at CHCC 2022!
Part of CHCC is creating a “build book” something the judges can look at that will help them understand your costume, the skills you used, and the choices you made. And while I didn’t film any videos as I was making Howl I did take lots of pictures that I want to share with you! So, here is our full build book from CHCC 2022! While this build book is a bit more wordy than ones I would make for an in person event it helps to get your process across during a virtual event! I hope it gives you a bit of insight into our process and what went into building these costumes! You can see more photos of these costumes in my portfolio!
